Major engineering plastics by resin type are polycarbonate, Nylon, ABS, thermoplastic polyesters (such as PET & PBT), polyoxymethylene (POM), fluoropolymers, polyphenylene oxide, sulfone polymers, polyphenylene sulfide, polyimides and others. The principal industrial applications of engineering plastics include transportation (mainly motor vehicles industry), electrical and electronics, machinery, building and construction, medical and consumer, industrial, and consumer appliances. Automotive manufacture is by far the largest consumer of engineering plastics.

The engineering plastics market is forecast to show a strong growth over the coming years with a 2015-2020 CAGR of 8-9% worldwide, in terms of demand volume as well as value. The Asia-Pacific region leads in the global engineering plastics market on basis of share and the growth rates, driven by the fast-growing of automotive & transportation in developing countries such as China, India, and Indonesia.
